Canley Heights RSL Ballroom Dancing was created in 2004 as a new affiliated club of the Combined NSW RSL Ballroom Dancing group.
The Combined ballroom dancing caters for dancers aged 5-25
Canley Ballroom is also affiliated with other external dance boards with dancers of all ages.
Meeting with both combined clubs and at external dance competitions, dancers are given many opportunities throughout the year to showcase their skills and socialise with other dancers across the state. It is also a challenge for each dancer to strive to do their best and the bonus of getting a place in the competition is an added proud point for the dancers.
The three genres we dance in competitions are Modern, New Vogue and Latin American.
Modern is danced in closed ballroom position, and the female never breaks apart from the male.
(Waltz, Slow Foxtrot/Slow Rhythm, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep)
New Vogue is sequence dancing in which everyone on the dance floor dances the same routine together.
(15 dances in total, including Swing Waltz, Carousel, Tango Terrific, and Gypsy Tap just to name a few)
Latin American is more relaxed and consists of dancing away from the partner, with or without holding on.
(Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive)
